Description

We collected bee photographs taken by citizens in citizen science program “Hanamaru-Maruhana national census (Bumble bee national census in English).” Bee occurrence data includes 5,503 records of 16 bumble bee species and 380 records of three carpenter bee species.

Data Records

The data in this occurrence resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 5,883 records.

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Species were identified from photographic images, and latitude-longitude data was extracted from GPS data in Exif information of photographs or address in text of e-mail.

Study Extent We collected bee photographs taken by citizens in citizen science program “Hanamaru-Maruhana national census (Bumble bee national census in English)” in Japan.
Quality Control The consistency of bumble bee species identification by J. Yokoyama was 95% for 15 bumble bee species, and 97.7% for major six species (B. diversus, B. ardens, B. hypocrita, B. ignitus, B. honshuensis, and B. beaticola)
